What is Butternut Squash?
The butternut is considered a winter squash and grows on a vine along the ground. The squash has a fat upper portion that is oblong and a bottom that is round. The squash can grow up to a foot or more in length and has a thick golden/orange/tan skin with a hint of peach tones. The inside of the squash is orange and firm when raw and very soft when cooked. The flavor is sweet and a little nutty.
