What is English Muffin?
The English muffin is a round bread, about 4 inches in diameter with a flat body, less than one inch in height. It is yeast leavened with a hard crust that is sprinkled with farina, a cereal grain. The English muffin is made to be easily sliced in half, toasted and spread with butter, jam or some other topping. The inside has a chewy texture with many small porous holes. The color of the muffin is white, with a golden/brown top and bottom. The flavor is yeasty, mild and has that nutty wheat flavor.
