What is Okra?
Okra is a vegetable that grows in warm to hot temperatures and is composed of an edible pod. This pod is green and ridged with a tapered bottom. Each pod is between 2-4 inches long, okra longer than this is usually tough. The pod has a harsh fuzz on it and round white seeds on the inside. When okra is cooked the pod and seeds become soft and mucilaginous. For this reason often fry or stew okra to reduce the mucus texture. The flavor is vegetal, sweet and nutty.
