What is Pancake?
The pancake is a flat pan-cooked and round cake made from a flour batter. The batter usually consists of flour, milk, oil, egg and a leavening agent such as baking powder. Pancakes vary in size from a few inches to the size of a small dinner plate. They have a golden brown exterior and a soft and moist crumb that hold together. Their flavor is mild, gently sweet and nutty. Ingredients such as blueberries, chocolate chips and nuts can be added to the batter for additional flavor. They are best served hot from the pan with butter and maple syrup.
