What is Sansho Pepper?
Sansho pepper is in the family of peppercorns and comes from the prickly ash. They are unripe seedpods. The sansho pepper is small and round like a peppercorn and green when freshly picked. They are dried and become a more muted medium shade of green. These little peppers are spicy and citrusy, with a flavor similar to the Sichuan peppercorn. They create a tingling sensation on the tongue that can be numbing.
