What is Submarine Roll?

Submarine roll, commonly called sub rolls are named after their long submarine shape. The roll is made from a yeasted wheat flour dough, formed into rectangles with rounded edges and baked. The crust is soft and the bread itself is very tender with a mild flavor and a hint of saltiness. Sub rolls are generally six inches, some are a foot long. They are built to hold many ingredients for a hefty sub sandwich.
