What is Water Chestnuts?
Water chestnuts are an aquatic vegetable. They grew in mud under the water of ponds and bodies of water. The tuber of the plant is what composes the water chestnut. This vegetable looks like a small, round bulb with a shiny brown skin. The skin is removed and the cream colored flesh of the soft woody water chestnut is consumed. The flavor is nutty and sweet and is used in stir fries and soups.
