What is Donut?

The doughnut, also spelled donut is a fat ring shaped baked good. It is made from sweet yeasted dough or cake batter that has been deep fried. Donuts are roughly the size of bagel, but a bit smaller. There are also donut holes; little balls of donut batter, about the size of a shelled walnut. Donuts come in many flavors and and may be coated in cinnamon and sugar, chocolate, vanilla icing and a vast variety of toppings. Some donuts are filled with jam or cream. They are sugary and have a soft cake-like texture.
